Every woman should know how to take care of herself.

Prevention saves Lives

This is the moto of this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, and a reality we cannot ignore any more. October is the chosen month for this organization to bring awareness to all women around the world regarding the breast cancer. It becomes vital to spread as much information as possible regarding the steps and actions needed to let know to every single woman that cancer can be prevented with the right precautions.

In #TheNowFamily we love to keep the positivity high and talk about DIY ideas and Halloween costumes, but we cannot close our eyes to what reality is. This argument is not easy to talk about since for those who experimented, it requires a lot of courage and positivity to manage with such a illness.

But, prevention saves lives and during the month of October, we celebrate internationally prevention and all the possible action we can take to anticipate unpleasant surprises.

Thanks to all the inventions we have nowadays, it became easier to identify the problem in its beginning. There are many chances to fight it first and forget about it for the rest of our lives. What can you do starting to day in order to start the process of prevention? By simply making part of your routine a quick breast check part of your day. A fun way to start, just because we are so addicted to our mobile devices nowadays, is by downloading this useful app, called Breast check Now.

Scaring numbers

Worldwide, breast cancer is diagnosed in 1,3 million women each year, while 400.000 women die from the disease. It is estimated that one out of 12 women in Europe and one out of 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Greatest risk occurs between the ages of 40 and 55 years, i.e. at the age close to menopause, after which growth continues, but at a slower pace. As numbers say, this illness is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide.

First time celebration

Looking back in time, the first was celebrated in the Us, in the 1985, with the goal to bring more awareness and encouraging woman to have mammograms. An early detection means that cancer can be more effective treated and prevented from spreading to other areas of the body.

The pink Ribbon

In 1993 it has been founded the Breast Cancer Research foundation which chose as a symbol of the movement a pink ribbon. During the month of October, it can be detected in every initiative on the streets and in the shops, from marathons to flowers in order to collect funds for the investigation.
